Excited for the Bold Type project! I think I'd like to make a modular typeface, similar to the one I've made in foundation year two years ago. Back then I didn't have the tools or skills to perfect it, so ideally I'd love to use it as start for the project. If I can't use it I'll use a similar technique to create the new one. I started by making a knot, then I drew it, then simplified the drawing to create 5 shapes, and I then tried to create the alphabet with the shapes. I could pursue that with another knot or another manual thing like that. I'm excited to use Glyph to create the font afterwards!
So the tutor seemed happy with my idea and gave me the green light to start creating the type. I’ve made almost all the characters, the alphabet is done, although it needs refining, and I need to make the punctuation, and numbers now. I think I’ll stick to only lowercase, but I’ll see with the tutor tomorrow what he thinks.
I'm so happy to have learned how to use Glyphs! I thought it would be very complicated but it actually was fun and easy. I know I didn't have the time to create all the characters for the hand-in, but I know for sure that I will experiment more with the software, and keep working on my font later on, and then maybe play around to create more!
I've struggled a bit for this poster, I didn't really know what to do for it. First I did this simple ABC one, but then realised it was probably too simple. Bhav suggested I do the second one so showcase my font, and I'm quite happy with it! All in all this project was very interesting, I learned a lot and it motivated me to do more font design.
