It’s the new term! I’m very excited about the work I’ve done last term, and about the new projects for this one. We just got our briefing today for the editorial project. I have to say I’m very enthusiastic about it! I think it’s going to be a lot of work, in a short amount of time, but I’m very happy to be able to learn and try something new.
I want to make a kids’ magazine, in the style of Anorak, and other Graphic magazines like that. I’m thinking about making it in French, because I’ve noticed that even if we have a lot of great magazines for kids in France, we don’t have anything nice and graphic. So I want to explore that a bit more. It’s going to be a great opportunity for me to illustrate, and do some research about the subject! I’m super passionate about the kids’ universe, I think it’s going to be great!
The project is going well! I’ve worked a lot, and I’m almost done with the content now. I’ve had to change a few of my initial ideas around, because they didn’t look good visually like I hoped they would. But I’m pretty pleased with everything I have so far! I’m still deciding what to write on the first page inside when we open the magazine… Because I don’t want to number the pages as it looks off and the kids don’t really need it as much, as they are really young.
I also went to talk to the printers. I will print it on uncoated paper as I want the kids to be able to draw, including on the cover. And as for the binding I think the best is staple binding, so that the magazine can open flat, instead of perfect binding which is not ideal in my case. I will do a test print tomorrow to see how the colours look, and will go print on Monday ideally, just to have over a week before the deadline in case anything goes wrong.
I'm so happy with how my magazine turned out! Ideally I know there's a few things I'd change if I had more money like the paper, but I'm very happy with what I've managed to do. The printers were great, they did a perfect job with printing and binding the magazine.
I'm not very happy with the pictures I took of it yet, but I know when I'll go home I'll take some better ones with my little cousins, so that I can get good pictures with the kids reading and playing with it.
